A BRIEF HISTORY OF OUR FIRM
Paul F. Smyth founded the firm in North Palm Beach, Florida, as a sole proprietorship in 1982. The firm was incorporated in 1987. Although the name has changed and the firm has grown larger, we continue to represent several clients that have been with the firm since inception.
In 1989, Darby M. Hauck became a partner and the name changed to Smyth & Hauck, P.A., C.P.A.s. Our growth has been planned carefully and is expected to continue at a controlled rate, allowing us to retain a highly qualified team of professionals to serve you.

MEET OUR CERTIFIED PUBLIC ACCOUNTANTS
Mr. Smyth, originally from Schenectady, New York, and later from Charleston, South Carolina is the President of the firm and received his degree from the University of Florida in December of 1979. He has served as president of the Palm Beach Gardens Jaycees, Vice President of Finance of Adopt a Family of the Palm Beaches, and on the Finance Committees of St. Marks School, Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Island Homeowners Association and Treasurer of Gulfstream Council of the Boy Scouts of America 2011-2013 and Vice-President of Endowment of Gulfstream Council of the Boy Scouts of America 2009-2011. Mr. Smyth concentrates in the fields of Estate and Financial Planning, Individual and Corporate Tax Planning and Preparation, and Small Business Consulting. Paul is married; his wife is also a C.P.A. Paul and his wife have two children and live in Jupiter.
Mr. Hauck, originally from Willmar, Minnesota, is Vice-President of the firm and received his degree from Moorhead State University in May of 1978. He brought to the firm a substantial and varied background in the practice of public accounting. His emphasis is in the area of Estate and Trust Tax Planning, Individual and Corporate Tax Planning and Preparation, and Management Advisory Services. Darby has two children and lives in Jupiter.
Mr. Hines received his degree from Florida Atlantic University in December 1970. Mr. Hines' experience before joining our firm in 1991 includes 20 years as the Controller of a national publishing company and as a Principal in a Ft. Lauderdale public accounting firm. He concentrates in the fields of Individual and Corporate Tax Planning and Preparation, Small Business Consulting, and Management Advisory Services.
Ms. Bergeron received her degree from Florida Atlantic University in August of 1979. Ms. Bergeron joined our Firm in 1994 and brought to the Firm her 15 years experience in both public and governmental accounting. She concentrates in the fields of Construction, Non-Profit and Governmental Accounting, as well as Individual and Corporate Tax Planning and Preparation.
Ms. Polo received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Florida in 1987 and her Master of Business Administration from Palm Beach Atlantic University in 1998. Ms. Polo was also an adjunct professor at Palm Beach Atlantic University for four years teaching Federal Taxation. Ms. Polo joined the firm in 2006 and brought to the firm 15 years of Public and Private accounting experience. She concentrates in the areas of Individual, Trust and Estate, and Corporate Taxation.
Ms. Evans received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Stetson University in 1983 and her MBA from Florida Atlantic University in 2005. Ms Evans first joined the firm in 1989 and after a foray in other ventures is thrilled to have returned in 2007. Her cumulative experience exceeds 25 years of individual and business tax and accounting services. Becky prides herself on communicating complicated accounting principles and complex tax regulations in an easily understandable manner.
Mr. Rippe received a B.S. in accounting from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Illinois. Upon graduation, Mr. Rippe was an accountant with Arthur Andersen in Cincinnati. Following his time with Arthur Andersen, Mr. Rippe was a vice president with the mutual fund and investment banking arms of Leshner Financial. Mr. Rippe then served as vice president and chief financial officer of the Legend Group and affiliates in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. He concentrates in the area of Individual, Corporate Tax Planning and preparation as well as pension planning.
MARY L. KEELOR
Ms. Keelor received her Bachelor in Business Administration degree from Florida Atlantic University in 1977. She has served as President of the Kiwanis Club of Jupiter-Tequesta, Board Member on the local chapter level of the FICPA, and is currently serving on the Finance Committees of All Saints School and St. Paul of the Cross Church. Ms. Keelor joined the firm in 2012 and brought to the firm 35 years of Public and Private accounting experience. She concentrates in the areas of Individual, Trust and Estate, and Corporate Taxation.
Mr. Couriel received his Bachelor in Arts degree in Management with a minor in Statistics from the University of Florida in 1998. He then furthered his education in accounting after returning home at Florida Atlantic University. Mr. Couriel brings over 15 years of experience in the private sector as well as in public accounting with a diverse background in tax, audit, governmental accounting, forensic accounting, litigation support and outsourced CFO services.
